Slow Dentistry
At our dental practice in Bitez we see seven patients a day and set aside one hour for each appointment. This time is for listening, examining, explaining and carrying out treatment with the care it needs. We call this way of working slow dentistry.

What is slow dentistry?
Slow dentistry is a way of working in which the length of an appointment is set by the time the work requires, not by the number of patients to be seen in a day. It puts clinical quality, patient safety and infection control ahead of speed.
"Slow" does not mean dragging procedures out unnecessarily. It means that every step is carried out in its own time, without any being skipped.
Our five standards
We wait for the anaesthetic to take effect
Depending on where it is given, a local anaesthetic usually takes between 5 and 15 minutes to take full effect. We begin treatment only once this time has passed and we have checked with you.
The room is prepared again after every patient
Between patients, the treatment room and the dental unit are disinfected in line with cross-infection control protocols. We plan our appointments so that there is time for this preparation.
We allow planning time for precise procedures
For procedures with little margin for error, such as taking a digital impression with an intraoral scanner or planning implant treatment in three dimensions, we allow enough clinical time to check that the data are accurate.
We isolate the working area
During fillings and root canal treatment, whenever possible, we separate the tooth from saliva with a rubber sheet (rubber dam). This keeps the area being treated dry and clean.
We discuss every option together
Before treatment begins, we explain all the stages, any alternatives and the possible risks. The decision is made together, once your questions have been answered.
How does an appointment go?
- Getting in touch: You contact us by WhatsApp or phone, and we agree on a suitable day and time.
- Getting to know you: We talk about your complaint, your expectations and your medical history.
- Examination: We examine your mouth; if needed, we take an image with the panoramic or periapical X-ray at the practice.
- Explanation and plan: We show you the findings on the images and explain the options and stages.
- Treatment: We carry out the planned procedure in line with our five standards.
- Follow-up: Together we plan any follow-up appointment that is needed.
Not every appointment includes treatment on the same day; the first visit is usually set aside for examination and planning.
For children and people with dental anxiety
Time matters all the more for children visiting the dentist for the first time and for adults who feel anxious about the dentist. When there is no rush, there is room to get to know each other, to ask questions and to get used to things. With children, we work together with the parents.

Does slow dentistry mean treatment will take longer?
Our appointments are longer. The total length of treatment and the number of sessions depend on the procedure; we plan these together after the examination.
Why do you use a rubber dam?
A rubber dam keeps the tooth away from saliva and moisture, keeps the working area visible and helps prevent small fragments from entering the mouth.
Why is it important to wait for the anaesthetic to take effect?
A procedure started before the anaesthetic has taken full effect can be more uncomfortable. That is why we wait for the time needed and check with you before we begin.
Is treatment carried out at the first appointment?
That depends on your complaint and the findings of the examination. The first appointment is usually for examination, imaging and planning; in an urgent situation such as pain, treatment can be given on the same day.
I am coming from outside Bodrum or from abroad; how do I plan my visit?
Letting us know the length of your stay in advance helps us plan the stages of treatment around it. Visits by our international patients are planned by our Health Tourism Officer.
